As David Virtue reports: “Ann Holmes Redding, the deposed former Episcopal priest turned Muslim convert, has landed a teaching job at Pacific Lutheran University in Seattle, which goes to show that anything is possible in this world including the blatantly stupid.”
Redding reports: “I am both Muslim and Christian, just like I’m both an American of African descent and a woman. I’m 100% both…. At the most basic level, I understand the two religions to be compatible. That’s all I need.”
Islam and Christianity compatible? Christians confess: “We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God … of one Being with the Father.”
Muslims deny that Jesus is “the only Son of God …. of one Being with the Father.” Islam and Christianity are not compatible “at the most basic level.”
Redding’s blend of Islam and Christianity is a kind of New-Ageism which distorts both religions.
How are PLU students supposed to learn about the basic differences between Christianity and Islam as well as figure out the limitations of professors like Redding?
Besides being “blatantly stupid,” PLU’s hiring of Redding is a new low in the standards of ELCA colleges.
