Episcopal official Rev. Dr. J. Robert Wright spoke at the 1997 ELCA Churchwide Assembly. He said that Episcopalians were troubled by the way ELCA leaders “were fudging” on the ordination of bishops and the future requirement for ordained deacons. Read more here.
Why bother with voting?
In August 2016 the ELCA will adopt the order of deacon as required to achieve full communion with the Episcopal Church. The fix is in. The fix has been in for a long time. An ordained diaconate is a done deal. Read more here.

ELCA Grace Gathering goes for Holy Hierarchy
