Not true.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sept  12, 1535<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> A letter by Luther to Dorothea Joerger<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On the other matter, do not be\u00a0led astray\u00a0by whether preachers have been\u00a0anointed or tonsured by\u00a0an ordained\u00a0bishop;\u00a0for these priests\u00a0have not been ordained\u00a0to the office of preaching, but\u00a0to <em>Winkelmesse<\/em> (performing private Masses for their own devotional lives and for the dead), and are the priests of Baal and Jereboam, etc. Whoever is called is ordained, and shall preach to those who call him.\u00a0That is our Lord God\u2019s ordaining\u00a0and\u00a0real anointing (chrism),\u00a0etc.&#8221; ) (Nr 2242)<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">*\u00a0 *\u00a0 *<\/p>\n<p><strong>April  11, 1542<\/strong>. A conversation between Luther and Melanchthon<\/p>\n<p>Then Philip (Melanchthon) said:\u00a0A man came from Hungary from Ferdinand\u2019s circle, who was to be ordained at Breslau.\u00a0Then the Breslauer sent him here.<\/p>\n<p>Luther said:\u00a0Why did the Breslauer not ordain him?<\/p>\n<p>Philip:\u00a0Ferdinand forbade them.<\/p>\n<p>Luther said:\u00a0Do they hold ordination to be something great?<\/p>\n<p>Philip:\u00a0Yes, Herr Doctor, they hold it to be a great, glorious thing, even greater than when one is baptized.<\/p>\n<p>Luther said:\u00a0It is true. In the papacy no one can celebrate the sacrament unless he has been ordained.\u00a0But ordination is not such a great thing; baptism is much greater than ordination, etc. Baptism forgives sins; ordination does not justify, does not forgive sins. I have baptized, administered sacraments, preached the forgiveness of sins.\u00a0These are the glorious offices of the church.\u00a0O, baptism is a glorious, great thing.
