{"id":632,"date":"2010-02-23T08:39:20","date_gmt":"2010-02-23T15:39:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crossalone.us\/?p=632"},"modified":"2010-03-01T09:15:09","modified_gmt":"2010-03-01T16:15:09","slug":"inspiration-isn%e2%80%99t-what-they-think-it-is","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crossalone.us\/?p=632","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Inspiration&#8221; isn\u2019t what they think it is&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The key verse is 2 Timothy 3:16.<\/p>\n<p>In the early church: \u201c<em>The scriptures were not the only ancient  writings that were believed to be inspired by God<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So what\u2019s inspired and what\u2019s not?<\/p>\n<p>Kalin has shown that \u201cin the early church inspiration  applied not only to all scripture, but also to the Christian community, as it  bore \u2018living witness of Jesus Christ.\u2019 Only heresy was considered to be  non-inspired, because it was contrary to this witness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is the same basis on which Paul rejected \u201canother  gospel\u201d even if &#8220;an angel from heaven&#8221; preached it (Gal 1:8). And\u00a0for  Luther &#8220;the true test&#8221; is: &#8220;What does not preach Christ is not apostolic, even  though St. Peter or Paul taught it; again, what preaches Christ would be  apostolic, even though Judas, Annas, Pilate, or Herod did it&#8221; (<em>LW<\/em> 35:396).<\/p>\n<p>Therefore  2 Timothy 3:16 is wrongly used wherever it is used to claim that the Bible is  verbally inerrant.
