{"id":616,"date":"2010-02-18T16:12:39","date_gmt":"2010-02-18T23:12:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crossalone.us\/?p=616"},"modified":"2010-02-20T09:52:12","modified_gmt":"2010-02-20T16:52:12","slug":"lutherans-hands-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crossalone.us\/?p=616","title":{"rendered":"Lutherans: Hands Off!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember CCM? \u00a0That horse-trading deal in which Episcopalians agreed \u201cto study\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> the Lutheran Confessions in exchange for the ELCA\u2019s adoption of the sacramental historic episcopate?<\/p>\n<p>Look at what happened Saturday, Feb 13<sup>th<\/sup>. Three ELCA bishops attended the ordination of the new Episcopal Bishop of Minnesota, the Right Rev Brian Prior. \u00a0The grand pageant was held at the Minneapolis Convention   Center. Several thousand attended.<\/p>\n<p>The three ELCA bishops were <strong>Peter Rogness<\/strong> (St. Paul Area), <strong>Harold Usgaard<\/strong> (Southeastern Minnesota), and <strong>Larry Wohlrabe<\/strong> (Northwestern  Minnesota).<a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>BUT: None of them were included in the laying-on-of-hands, despite CCM \u00b6 12:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026 [B]oth churches \u2026 promise to include <strong>regularly<\/strong> one or more bishops of the other church to participate in the laying-on-of-hands at the ordinations\/installations of their own bishops\u2026.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What CCM \u00b6 12 gives with one hand, CCM \u00b6 14 takes away with the other:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the Evangelical  Lutheran Church in America \u2026 full communion \u2026 will be realized at this time. For <strong>The Episcopal Church<\/strong>, full communion, although begun at the same time, <strong>will not be fully realized<\/strong> until both churches determine that in the context of a common life and mission there is a shared ministry of bishops in the historic episcopate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Episcopal eyes <strong>ELCA bishops aren\u2019t kosher<\/strong>, even though all three ELCA bishops had Episcopal hands laid on their heads.<a href=\"#_ftn4\">[4]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What will it take for The Episcopal Church to declare full communion is \u201cfully realized\u201d? \u00a0Plugging the leaks in the ELCA pipeline.<a href=\"#_ftn5\">[5]<\/a> Until then, it\u2019s Lutherans: Hands off!<\/p>\n<p>As Gerhard Forde said, \u201cThey gave away the family farm.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr size=\"1\" \/><a href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> CCM \u00b64.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/crossalone.us\/2006\/priorsordination.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Page<\/a> from the official program of the ordination and consecration of Episcopal Bishop Prior.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a>\u201cAs a result of their agreement in faith and in testimony of their full communion with one another, <strong>both churches<\/strong> now make the following commitment to share an Episcopal succession that is both evangelical and historic. They <strong>promise to include regularly<\/strong> <strong>one or more bishops of the other church to participate in the laying-on-of-hands<\/strong> at the ordinations\/installations of their own bishops as a sign, though not a guarantee, of the unity and apostolic continuity of the whole church.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a> They were spliced into the pipeline as follows: Usgaard \u201901, Rogness \u201902, Wohlrabe \u201907.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a> The Episcopal Church will not declare full communion achieved until <strong>all<\/strong> ELCA bishops have been hooked up to the pipeline.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/crossalone.us\/2006\/handsoff2.doc\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Downloadable Word .doc File<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember CCM? \u00a0That horse-trading deal in which Episcopalians agreed \u201cto study\u201d[1] the Lutheran Confessions in exchange for the ELCA\u2019s adoption of the sacramental historic episcopate?
