Another Muslim read different verses from the Koran in Arabic.<\/p>\n<p>In commenting on Muslims in inter-faith services, the <a title=\"Erasmus clueless about Koran\u2019s code words\" href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/blogs\/erasmus\/2017\/01\/sacred-readings-holy-rows\" target=\"_blank\">Erasmus blog<\/a> (<em>The Economist<\/em>) commented on what was said in English but overlooked what was said in Arabic.<\/p>\n<p>The reading in Arabic included the following verse (Koran 1:7). The italicized words are added to translate the code phrases:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cI seek refuge in Allah from Satan.<br \/>\nThanks be to Allah the merciful one. Guide us on the right path<br \/>\nfor those whom you blessed (<em>Muslims<\/em>), not the path of the ones<br \/>\nyou are angry at (<em>Jews<\/em>) and the ones who went astray (<em>Christians<\/em>).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These verses are recited at every Friday prayer service in every mosque around the world. The meaning of what is said \u2014 that Jews incurred the wrath of Allah, and that Christians went astray \u2014 is supported by all authoritative exegetes of the Koran. Every pious Muslim knows what these verses mean.<\/p>\n<p>Inter-faith services are hazardous at best. Yet it ought to be a no-brainer to forbid readings in Arabic and forbid verses in which code phrases attack Jews and Christians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In inter-faith services is it O.K for Muslims to read from the Koran in Arabic?
