{"id":1566,"date":"2011-10-25T12:21:38","date_gmt":"2011-10-25T19:21:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crossalone.us\/?p=1566"},"modified":"2011-10-25T12:21:38","modified_gmt":"2011-10-25T19:21:38","slug":"golden-oldies-1-%e2%80%93-german-lutherans-break-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crossalone.us\/?p=1566","title":{"rendered":"Golden Oldies 1 \u2013 German Lutherans Break Free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Reformation 2011 approaches, it is sobering to recall <em>Dominus Jesus <\/em>(2000), in which Rome does not recognize Protestant churches as \u201csister churches\u201d; rather, they are \u201cecclesial communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2001 German Lutherans issued \u201cAn Evangelical Understanding of Church Fellowship,\u201d which Cardinal Walter Kasper found \u201cabrasive.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Professor Dr. Dorothea Wendebourg responded:<\/p>\n<p>The Roman Catholic Church is no longer used to \u2013 and we ourselves are hardly still used to \u2013 Protestants expressing themselves confessionally in a clear and forthright manner and critiquing the teachings and practices of other churches, especially the Roman Catholics. That has now occurred in \u201cAn Evangelical Understanding of Church Fellowship.\u201d In it we state what the goal of all ecumenical dialogues is to be and reject the Roman Catholic model and goal.\u00a0 We criticize the Roman Catholic Church on various points \u2013 the papacy, the nature of the office of ministry, the ordination of women, canon law. We criticize them just as they have criticized us.
