{"id":1254,"date":"2011-01-07T15:10:46","date_gmt":"2011-01-07T22:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crossalone.us\/?p=1254"},"modified":"2011-01-07T15:10:46","modified_gmt":"2011-01-07T22:10:46","slug":"forde-ism-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crossalone.us\/?p=1254","title":{"rendered":"Forde-ism #6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cBack in the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century and up into our century, people liked to talk about <strong>doing kingdom work<\/strong> \u2013 full-time kingdom work.\u00a0 Those of us who were preachers or teachers at the seminary were full-time workers in the kingdom and the rest of you folks were just part-timers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut of course that was a mistaken view to begin with because <strong>the only full-time worker in the <\/strong><strong>kingdom<\/strong><strong> of <\/strong><strong>God<\/strong><strong> is God.<\/strong> The kingdom comes by God\u2019s power alone and God\u2019s grace alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI sometimes like to say there ought to be a big sign on the kingdom of God which says: \u2018Keep Out. Mind your own business. For the time being God alone is at work and this is his affair.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has the effect of turning us <strong>back into the world, which is where we belong,<\/strong> to take care of it. We\u2019re not about the business of building the kingdom of God but about the business of taking care of the earth, waiting and hoping for that ultimate kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes when students ask me: \u2018Well, shouldn\u2019t we be about the business of spiritual transformation?\u2019 I say: \u2018Well, you know, what\u2019s really involved in this is that, if you\u2019re a student, you ought to be paying attention to your books.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not very romantic. Most of them think they should be out protesting on the lawn of Honeywell or something, like that would be the real Christian occupation.
