Forde was a long time professor at Luther Seminary, St. Paul,\nMinnesota.&nbsp; When Dr. Forde received the\nJoseph A. Sittler Award for Theological Leadership in 1994, he was honored as\none who \u201cstimulated Christian laity, clergy, and theologians to think more\ndeeply and more clearly about the central dimensions of the Gospel: Christ\u2019s\natonement and our justification by faith.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerhard Forde\ndid that and more. He was an international leader in the twentieth-century Luther\nRenaissance, a worldwide network of scholars rediscovering the decisive dynamic\nof Luther\u2019s own thought. In recognition of the importance of his own leadership,\nForde served as President of the International Congress for Luther Research\n(1985-1993). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forde was also\na major contributor for over twenty years in the U.S. Lutheran-Roman Catholic\ndialogue, an arena in which some of the most creative theology of the twentieth\ncentury was done. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At his\nretirement in 1998, Forde said: \u201cI have tried through the years to present the integrity\nand truth of the tradition, especially as found in Martin Luther, in a way that\nis interesting, compelling and exciting.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on Forde\u2019s life and work, see\nMarianna Forde: <em>Gerhard O.
